{"id":15424,"date":"2017-04-19T20:16:05","date_gmt":"2017-04-19T10:16:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/margiev2.websitereboot.com.au\/?p=15424"},"modified":"2017-04-19T20:16:05","modified_gmt":"2017-04-19T10:16:05","slug":"failure-isnt-final","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/margiewarrell.com\/failure-isnt-final\/","title":{"rendered":"Failure Isn&#8217;t Final"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When I sat down to interview Bill Marriott at Marriott\u2019s international headquarters, I hadn\u2019t reckoned on him turning the tables to interview me at the end.<\/p>\n<p>As you will see from our exchange, one of the things I shared with him is my belief that failure is never final but really just an opportunity to learn about what \u2018doesn\u2019t work\u2019 so we can be smarter in succeeding at what does!<\/p>\n<p>Over the years I\u2019ve fallen short of achieving the outcomes I\u2019ve wanted (my definition of failure) more times than I care to count. Yet every single time I\u2019ve learned a really valuable lesson and ultimately ended up far better off than had I never risked the failure to begin with.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/CvR-GagqGt8\" width=\"560\" height=\"314\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><br \/>\nI hope our interview will inspire you to embrace a \u2018risk-ready\u2019 mindset that embraces failure as a necessary requirement for success.<\/p>\n<p>As I wrote in <a href=\"https:\/\/margiewarrell.com\/imperfect-decisions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">last week\u2019s blog<\/a>, when we try to make perfect choices about everything, every-time, we reduce our capacity to make really smart ones when they matter most. Likewise, when you don\u2019t give yourself permission to fall short of your ideal outcome, it stops you from daring to try and, in doing so, deprives you of valuable opportunities for discovering whole new possibilities for yourself in your work and life.<\/p>\n<p>When I asked Bill Marriott if, at eighty-something and having built the world\u2019s largest hotel chain with over 6,000 properties, whether he still worried about failing, he laughed. \u201cEvery single day,\u201d he chuckled. Yet he said that he\u2019d long since learned that if you let your fear of messing up keep you from starting out you\u2019ll never learn, you\u2019ll never grow and you\u2019ll deprive yourself of reasons to celebrate when you do succeed!<\/p>\n<p>So as you think about what you have going on right now, ask yourself, where is an experience of failure from your past keeping you from taking the risk you need to experience the success you want in the future?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">[inlinetweet prefix=&#8221;&#8221; tweeter=&#8221;&#8221; suffix=&#8221;&#8221;]Remember, failure is an event, not a person.[\/inlinetweet]<\/p>\n<p>No outcome ever defines who you are.
