If you&#8217;re under the age of 30, like my kids, his name may not ring a bell. If you&#8217;re over it, then you may recall some of his bigger movies. \u00a0Platoon. Natural Born Killers. Born on the 4th of July. Wall Street&#8230;. it&#8217;s a long list and will be even longer when his latest movie Snowdon is realised later this year. No doubt it will be contentious!<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-10710 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/margiewarrell.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/FullSizeRender-300x175.jpg\" alt=\"Oliver Stone Margie Warrell\" width=\"300\" height=\"175\" data-wp-pid=\"10710\" \/>While I knew that Stone would\u00a0be a special\u00a0guest at the\u00a0event, I hadn&#8217;t realised I&#8217;d be seated beside him at the head table!\u00a0Needless to say, it was pretty darn cool!\u00a0 He&#8217;s a big thinking guy, very\u00a0passionate about his work (still, at age 68), and committed to sharing stories that he believes leave the world better off. \u00a0While I didn&#8217;t agree with all his political views, our\u00a0conversation still left me thinking bigger about the world, about life and about what was possible for me in it.\u00a0His passion and boldness rubbed off on me, as passion and boldness so often do!<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Of course sometimes people impact us just the opposite way.\u00a0You\u2019ve probably had the experience where you\u2019re feeling pretty\u00a0good about life\u00a0and then you find yourself in the company of someone who isn\u2019t so positive and, without even realizing it, you\u2019re not so upbeat anymore.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">That\u2019s because \u2013 for better or worse \u2013 our emotions are contagious, making it nearly impossible not to be affected by the moods, emotions and outlook\u00a0of those around us.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Of course the upside is that if you\u2019re feeling a little flat, spending time with someone who radiates an optimistic \u2018can do\u2019 spirit can help to lift your spirits, see the lighter side of life, and reframe your problems\u00a0through a bigger, more empowering lens.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>\u00a0Never underestimate the impact of the people around you to support or sabotage your success.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\">Research psychologists\u00a0have actually coined the term \u2018mirror neurons\u2019 to explain how we subconsciously mirror the emotions of those around us.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>What this means for you is that you have to be intentional about the company you keep \u2013 mindful about hanging out with like-minded people who lift you up and minimizing time with those who don\u2019t bring out your best. And if you\u2019re in a situation that currently makes that difficult, then being extra diligent in your self-care and \u2018renewal rituals.\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">During my recent <a href=\"http:\/\/RawCourage.TV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">RawCourage.TV<\/a> interview with entrepreneur and magazine publisher <a href=\"http:\/\/rawcourage.tv\/exiting-relationships-lisa-messenger-pt-5\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lisa Messenger<\/a>, we talked about why we sometimes we need\u00a0to be courageous\u00a0in ending relationships that no longer serve us (if they ever did.)\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>As I wrote in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.trainthebrave.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brave<\/a>, living your best life requires regularly\u00a0connecting\u00a0with people who help you be bigger and better than you would be otherwise and steering\u00a0away from those who fuel self-doubt, stoke anxiety or discourage our dreams.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">This is <em>not<\/em>\u00a0about being disloyal or unkind to those who are struggling and going through hard times. It <em>is<\/em> about being fully committed to your own greatness &#8211; living purposefully and passionately\u00a0and surrounding yourself with people who want no less of themselves.\u00a0It serves no-one to \u00a0make yourself small\u00a0because you&#8217;re afraid of what might happen if you dare to forge a new, bigger and bolder path.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>You can&#8217;t expect to create\u00a0positive changes in your life if you&#8217;re surrounded<br \/>\nby nay-sayers, critics and small-thinking\u00a0people.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\">While it\u2019s important to be generous and support those who need a helping hand, an extra word of encouragement, or a listening ear, it serves no-one to subjugate our aspirations, talents and potential for fear of criticism from those who are more committed to their complaints and problems than their potential and possibilities. And remember, when they say things that pull you down or diminish your dreams, it\u2019s because they\u2019re ultimately scared you\u2019ll leave them behind.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>When\u00a0people\u00a0say things that diminish your dreams,<br \/>\nit\u2019s because they\u2019re scared you\u2019ll leave them behind.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\">Of course it&#8217;s not every day one gets to have lunch with an iconic movie director. But if there\u2019s one thing I\u2019ve learned over the years it\u2019s that when you surround yourself with people who believe in you, it makes success so much easier to achieve (however you define it!)<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Hanging out with big-thinking and big-hearted people will help you approach life more bravely yourself.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">If you&#8217;d \u00a0like some extra help in doing just that, I invite you to take part in my 10 day Train The Brave Challenge.
